“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands
in moments of comfort and convenience,
but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.”
— Martin Luther King, Jr.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Day
Commemorative Celebration
& Public Meeting
Sunday, January 16, 2011
2:30 – 4:30 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church
6400 S. Kimbark Ave.
This is an opportunity to both celebrate Dr. King's legacy and continue his work by holding politicians accountable to the needs and interests of people living in the Southside and South Suburbs of Chicago. Elected officials from across the Chicago area will be there, and, before a gathering of 800 of their constituents, we will be asking them to make concrete commitments on issues including education, jobs, transit, sustainability, and the foreclosure crisis in Chicago.
Current confirmed officials include State Representatives Will Burns, Marlow Colvin, Barbara Flynn Currie, and Will Davis; State Senator Kwame Raoul; Aldermen Willie Cochran, Pat Dowell, and Michelle Harris; Chicago Public Schools Chief Administrative Officer Bob Runcie; Illinois EPA Associate Director Elmo Dowd; Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle; and Mayoral candidates Gery Chico, Miguel del Valle, and Patricia Watkins.
We need you to show up, stand up and be counted!
Our elected officials must know they are to be held accountable!

I am excited about another tremendous MLK celebration and exercising people power. Dr. King would be proud!
ReplyDeleteThis was a wonderful and inspiring event from the beginning to the end. Hopefully, King was smiling on our efforts to remember and celebrate his work.
