M.L.K. Day 2013

2013 Dr. Martin Luther King Day
Celebration and Public Meeting

Celebrate Dr. King’s legacy by fighting for your community!

When: Sunday, January 13, 2013

Musical celebration and registration will take place from 2:30 – 3:00 p.m., and the public meeting will start promptly at 3:00 p.m.

Where: West Point Missionary Baptist Church, 3566 S. Cottage Grove

This is the time each year when we celebrate the legacy of Dr. King, and we continue his work through community organizing. We will be asking elected officials to make commitments on issues affecting our communities.  Come show your officials that their constituents will not stand on the side lines.  Please come out and bring your friends, neighbors, and fellow congregants!  You can RSVP here.

The issues include:

  • the creation of a land bank in Cook County to rehabilitate unused and foreclosed properties to create affordable housing and jobs
  • building the Bronzeville Arts and Rec Center
  • securing a local bus route in Bridgeport
  • closing corporate tax loop holes in Illinois and creating progressive revenue streams on the federal level to better fund education, parks, and other public services

Call Will Tanzman at (312) 402-0572 if you have any questions.

Buses are leaving from all over the south side and south suburbs of Chicago. For information on transportation from your neighborhood, call Maria Fitzsimmons at (773) 456-8886.

“Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.” – Dr. King
